T LPs, Cassettes, Printed Matter

T.C. Atlantic: T.C. Atlantic (USA) Dove-USA/66   Rare garage/psych.  Recorded live at the Bel-Rae ballroom.  Great raw sound with cool guitar and plenty of what sure sounds like Farfisa organ.  Skips on one track of side two.  rw, cw, tss, bss, sss, stnoc  P++/P+++  $50

T2: It’ll all work out in Boomland (ENG)  London-USA/70   Early English progressive rock.  Side two features the epic “Morning.”  scroc  E--/VG+++  $68

*Tafolla, Joey: Out of the Sun (USA)  Shrapnel-USA/87   Another great speed metal album from Shrapnel.  Backed up by Wally Voss (bass) and Reynold Carlson (drums) of Rising Force, and Tony MacAlpine on keys and production; Paul Gilbert also guests on several tracks.  Recommended.  btc  Still/Sealed $8

Tailgunner: Tailgunner (USA)  Private-USA/83   Excellent hard rock (two guitars, bass, drums) that brings Mahogany Rush to mind.  Partially in shrink.  VG-/VG $130

Tai Phong: Tai Phong (FRA)  Gatefold/Warner Bros.-FRA/75   There’s a removable sticker on the cover that says “Sister Jane,” which was the “hit” on this album.  Gosh darn this is good!  sl stnoc  E--/VG  $43

Tai Phong: Windows (FRA)  Gatefold/Warner Bros-FRA/76   This group has something that most progressive groups don’t: two Chinese.  Aside from playing beautifully, the vocals are also outstanding—imagine CSN&Y gone totally progressive, and you get an idea of what Tai Phong sounds like: nice, delicate vocal harmonies, backed by great music.  Great cover, too.   VG++/VG++  $40, or rw, cw  F-/G+++  $28

Takanaka, Masayoshi: Super Selection II (JAP) Invitation-JAP/81   With insert.  Side two plays close to mint.  rw, scroc, boc  G-/VG+++  $20

Takanaka, Masayoshi: The Rainbow Goblins (JAP) DBL LP/Gatefold/Kitty-JAP/81   Concept album with occasional narration (in English).  Takanaka is a fine jazz-rock guitarist whose playing lands somewhere between Santana and Larry Carlton to my ears.  If you’ve ever seen the laser disc or video of this work performed live, you know what a treat it is.  The two pieces that take up side four are especially nice.  The cover artwork is simply stunning!  rw, dh  VG---/M--/M--  $32

Takeda: Spirits (JAP?) CASS/Viagem-USA/92   “Takeda explores new electro-acoustic dimensions with an intoxicating blend of jazz, classical, Latin and new age elements.  These lush, lyrical compositions will take you on a musical journey full of richly textured harmonies and challenging, unpredictable soundscapes.” —From the liner notes.  Still/Sealed  $6

*Tandy & Morgan: Earthrise (ENG) Straight Ahead-USA  Richard Tandy and David Morgan are both keyboardists from ELO (Tandy also sings), and they are accompanied by at least one member of Magnum (guitarist Tony Clarkin), as well as Kevin Peak (Sky guitarist) and Mike Giles.  The result is a nice ELO/prog combo, science fiction concept album.  Recorded in England but mastered and released here, probably sometime in the late 70s or early 80s.  Still/Sealed  $28

Tangerine Dream: Cyclone (GER) Gatefold/Virgin-GER/78  They even sing on side one!  btc, boc, sd  G+++/VG  $10

Tangerine Dream: Exit (GER) Virgin-CAN/81  Still/Sealed  $16

Tangerine Dream: Sorcerer (GER) MCA-GER/77  Soundtrack to the movie.  sm btc  E+++/G---  $6

Tangerine Dream: Wavelength (GER) Varèse Sarabande-USA/82  Movie soundtrack.  sd, rw, stnoc  F+++/G+  $5

Tangerine Dream: Phaedra (GER) Gatefold/Virgin-ENG/74   Great electronic music; lots of Mellotron on this one.  sm troc, scroc, sl rw  G+++/G---  $13

Tangerine Dream: Stratosfear (GER) Gatefold/Virgin-USA/76   E+++/VG  $12

Tasavalan Presidenti: Lambertland (FIN)  Gatefold/Sonet-ENG/73   tss  G/G++ $35

Taylor, Dub: Lumière (For Synthesized & Concrète Sound) (USA) Varèse Intl.-USA/73  Dub is also known as Keith Taylor.  The album is comprised of two sidelong pieces, and the music is, as you might expect from the title, a combination of electronic and musique concrète.  The concrète sounds include everything from radio transmissions, jets, pink noise, historical records, random voices, and all kinds of other strange “found sounds,” interspersed with weird electronic creations.  Pretty wild stuff; if you like experimental electronic and concrete music, this is for you.  On blue vinyl!  Still/Sealed  $70

Taylor, Joe: Spirit Light (USA) Ark-USA/71?   Nice Christian folk-rock with vocals that sometimes remind me of the Talbot brothers’ (and Mason Proffit’s) Terry Talbot.  In shrink wrap.  Warp causes some surface noise at beginning of each side.  M---/VG+  $70

Tea Company, The: Come and Have Some Tea With the Tea Company (USA) Smash-USA/68   New York-based garagey psych; sounds like they were inspired by early (The) Pink Floyd and The Beatles.  Great cover!  dh, rw, troc, stnobc  F---/F++  $32

Tee Set, The: Ma Belle Amie/Angels Coming in the Holy Night (HOL)  7" Sing./Colossus-USA/70?   Dutch beat group that apparently only released this single and an LP in the U.S.—on the same label as Maypole.   NA/F $11

Terraplane: I Survive (ENG)  12" EP/PS/City-ENG/83   NWOBHM.  The other three tracks are “Gimme the Money,” “Turn me Loose,” and “I Want your Body” (last two recorded live at Reading Festival).  VG-/E+ $6

Thompson, Richard & Linda: Hokey Pokey (ENG) RE/Carthage-USA/83   With Simon Nicol and John Kirkpatrick, amongst others.  Originally released in 1974.  Audiophile pressing.  In shrink wrap.  M---/M--  $15

Tilburi: Al Fin..! (SPA)  Gatefold/Movie Play-SPA/75   E/E+ $80

Tilston, Steve: Collection (USA)  MCA-USA/72   cc  VG+/VG+  $10

Toan, Danny: First Serve (USA) Embryo-USA/77  Jazz-rock album headed by guitarist Toan, with keys, bass, drums (Alphonse Mouzon’s on one track), flute, sax.  ph, wobc, rw, sm stnoc  G++/VG+  $15

Tolonen, Jukka: The Hook (FIN)  Love-SWE?/74   Hot fusion from a guitarist who briefly played with Wigwam.  rw  G/VG+ $27

Tolonen, Jukka: A Passenger to Paramaribo (FIN)  Love-FIN/77   More hot jazz-rock, with Esa Kotilainen on keys.  stobc, sd, btc  G---/F+ $11

Tolonen, Jukka: Crossection (FIN)  Janus-USA/75   wlp, stobc  VG/E $15, or cc, tpoc  G-/E-  $12

Tombstone Valentine: Hidden World (USA) Aether-USA/97  New psychedelic band that’s received a lot of attention recently.  Side two is an improvised piece called “Elastic Reality.”  With insert.  cc, sl scrobc  E-/E  $15

Toncho Pilatos: Segunda Vez (MEX) Discos Cronos-MEX/80   Not as sought after as their first or quite as hard rocking, but still worth having and very rare.  btc, troc  Still/Sealed  $165

Tong, The: Dangerous Games (USA) Augustwolf-USA/81  Here’s an interesting one: Mingo Lewis—the fantastic fusion drummer who had an excellent solo album (listed elsewhere in this catalog) and played/recorded with Al Di Meola, Santana, and The Tubes—heads up this trio. This is definitely more commercial: there’s a promo insert (and a photo) in which they mention being “influenced by the likes of The Police and Automatic Man”(!)  On bright yello vinyl.  rw, cw, stoc, sm tss, bss, wobc  F-/E+  $14

To Nije Sala/What Makes Donna Twirl: A Bitër Kermit Haevën/What Makes Donna Twirl (USA) Psycho Acoustic Sounds-USA/89   Split album, but both bands are weird and wild.  To Nije Sala reminds me of the Residents at times; What Makes Donna Twirl includes two of To Nije Sala’s members (with the third member also appearing on two tracks) and features bizarre vocals, instrumentation that includes alto sax, clarinet, shenai, khen, and steel drums, and music that is way out there (another reference here might be Magma).  Still/Sealed  $40, or in shrink  M---/New  $38

Tormé: Back to Babylon (ENG)  Passport-USA/85   Guitarist Bernie Tormé’s group. In shrink.  E/E $7

Tormé, Bernie: Electric Gypsies (ENG) Zebra-FRA/83   Heavy metal trio; I only bought this because The Enid’s Robert John Godfrey guests on keyboards (for that matter, Stephen Stewart co-produced and engineered the album).  rw  E--/E+  $14

Touchstone: Tarot (USA) Gatefold/United Artists-USA/72   Subtitled “the original cast mime album,” this is excellent all-instrumental psych rock with some scorching guitar and organ playing.  Side two’s opening track, “The Chariot Space Voyage/The Star,” is especially mind-blowing—it just doesn’t let up!  Great cover, inside and out.  This group features keyboardist Tom Constanten of the Grateful Dead, and is not to be confused with the other band by the same name listed here!  woc, pstp, bss, tss, tpoc, boc, wol  F+/VG--  $52

Touchstone: The New Land (USA)  Green Linnet-USA/82   “Creates a new musical style that is firmly grounded in the Irish tradition, yet is infused with a healthy dose of American country and old-time music.” —from the liner notes.  With insert.  tss, rw  G+/M-  $15

Traffic: Mr. Fantasy (ENG) RE/Gatefold/Island-USA   Originally released in 1968, this is a tasty combination of psych, jazz, pop and prog (even has some “Meletron”).  Columbia House issue.  rw, btc  G+++/E++  $12

Traffic: More Heavy Traffic (ENG)  United Artists-USA/75   Greatest hits collection.  sm troc  E--/VG+ $10

Trapeze: Live in Texas/Dead Armadillo (ENG)  Aura-ENG/81   Had never seen this one before.  Includes a live promo picture of Mel Galley.  troc, btc  G---/M--  $41

Trefethen: Am I Stupid or am I Great? (USA)  Pacific Arts-USA/80  sc, SOC  G-/F+  $10, or  btc  VG++  Still/Sealed  $15

*Treponem Pal: Treponem Pal (FRA)  RC Records-FRA?/89  Mainly heavy metal.  sc  Still/Sealed $5

Trettioåriga Kriget: Krigssång (SWE) CBS-HOL/75   A great guitar-driven progressive rock album.  Side two is the side-long title track.  Recommended.  btc, rw  G--/M--  $50

Tri Atma: Ka Jakee Music (GER) Lifestyle-USA/86   rw, woc  G/M--  $12

Triade: 1998: la Storia di Sabazio (ITA)  RE/Gatefold/Nexus-JAP/83   Another one of those classic, indispensible (heavy) prog rock albums from Italy.  Side one all instrumental, side two with vocals.  With insert.  E-/M- $85

Tribe: Bengla Desha (USA)  Pickwick-USA   Exploitation LP of this group doing covers of The Beatles, Harrison, Dylan, Ringo Starr, and what I suppose is a “group composition,” a piece called “Meditation Raga.”   wd  VG/E  $7

*Tribu: Fusión Etno-rock (Cuauhtemoc Aguilar Solar) (MEX)  Pentagrama-MEX/87   It is my understanding that Tribu is or was Jorge Reyes’ backup band, either in concert or on some of his albums.  That claim has the ring of truth, judging from some of the music.  Still/Sealed $20, or in shrink, M--/New $18

Tribu: Compartiendo el Universo (MEX) Discos Pentagrama-MEX/89  If you enjoy music by the likes of Jorge Reyes or Arturo Meza, you’ll like this album by one of the forerunners of the prehispanic-progressive rock fusion style.  Nice use of synthesizers on this one.  btc  VG++/VG+  $45

Tribu: Correo del Tiempo (MEX) Gatefold/Private-MEX/80  sl rw, sm bss  One of their earliest releases, this one has a hodge-podge of tracks on side one (from what I’d call pre-hispanic chamber music to mariachi), and side two contains a side-long piece that is a nice fusion of ethnic, pre-hispanic, rock, etc.  sm stnobc  E/VG+++  $40

Tribute: Tribute Live!: The Melody, The Beat, The Heart (SWE) Heavenly Heights-SWE/86   Excellent progressive fusion band that includes Pierre Moerlen (Tribute had played on one of Moerlen’s Gong’s albums).  Features plenty of nice mallet instrument playing.  boc, btc  VG-/M--  $25

Trip, The: Time of Change (ITA)  Gatefold/Trident-ITA/73   Yet another classic Italian progressive rock album, nice and heavy, with more than a nod to the ELP school of playing: The Trip is a keyboard/bass/drums trio, and all sing.  Recommended.  sss, bss, sm wol, stnoc, sl rw  G/G+++  $150

Triumvirat: Illusions on a Double Dimple (GER) Harvest-USA/73  Like Starcastle, this is an outstanding group whose music is highly imitative of one of the prog supergroups, in this particular case, ELP.  The albums listed here comprise their first five releases, and all real good.  rw, stnoc, sm btc, boc  F++/VG-  $8

Triumvirat: Mediterranean Tales (GER) Harvest-GER/72  Their debut, only released abroad.  sd, boc  G+/E+++  $30

Triumvirat: Spartacus (GER) Capitol-USA/75  In shrink wrap.  ph, sm troc, btc  VG/E++  $14

Triumvirat: Old Loves Die Hard   Electrola-GER/76   slt spltsm, rw  F+/P  $3, or Capitol-USA/76  (the cover’s from the American pressing, but the record is actually a Canadian pressing)  rw, btc  G+++/G--  $7

Triumvirat: Pompeii (GER) Capitol-USA/77  In shrink.  btc  E/M---  $18

True Myth: True Myth (CAN) Gatefold/Warner Bros.-CAN/79   Excellent progressive rock with occasional Gentle Giant moves, and one of the first rock albums to be recorded digitally.  Leader Tom Treumuth’s keyboard arsenal includes the mighty Mellotron, by the way.  With the interesting liner notes.  sl tss, rw  E---/E+  $50

Tubes, The: The Tubes (USA)  A&M-USA/75   Buy it for their great version of the traditional “Malagueña Salerosa”!  Warped.  rw  G--/P+ $2
